Land in Nadi. Sail from Denarau.
Which day boat reaches the good sand. What the mud pools behind the airport actually cost. Whether the transfer is worth arranging before you land. Every tour in Fiji, reviewed.
The days that fill a week between Nadi and the outer sand.
A boat to the Mamanucas, warm grey mud in the Sabeto valley, orchids under the Sleeping Giant ridge, a lunch cooked in the ground. Most Fiji weeks are built from this handful of days.
The day boats leave Port Denarau before nine.
The marina sits twenty minutes from the runway and it is the front door to the Mamanucas. South Sea, Malamala, Tivua, Cloud 9: the same jetty, and four completely different days on the water.
Nadi gives you a whole day before check-in.

Long-haul flights land here in the small hours and no resort room is ready before two. The mud pools, the temple at the south end of town and the orchid gardens under the ridge all sit inside half an hour of the terminal.

Warm mud, three pools, back by lunch
Wade into the grey pool, coat yourself, dry in the sun until you crack, rinse in the second, then sit in the hot spring until your legs forget the flight.
From a mud-pool morning to a private island: what Fiji costs.
Every tour on the site sorted by price. A good Fiji day starts at less than a resort breakfast.
Mud pools, the temple and market morning, short transfers and the gardens under the ridge.
The tours more travellers take than anything else in Fiji.

The Coral Coast trades the marina for a river and a reef.
Ninety minutes east of the airport the resorts thin out and the Queens Road runs along the reef edge. This is the sand-dune coast, the Sigatoka river valley and Natadola, and the stretch where a jet boat makes more sense than a catamaran.
All 29 Coral Coast tours →Three things Fiji does that nowhere else does the same way.
Reef trips run all over the Pacific. The kava bowl, the hot grey mud at Sabeto and the shark water off the south coast belong to Fiji.

Kava and the village welcome
Yaqona, the peppery root drink Fiji calls kava, is mixed in a wooden tanoa and taken in turn. A village visit is a visit to where people live: you arrive with kava as a gift, you sit when your host sits, and the meke and the lovo lunch follow. Shoulders covered, hat off, sulu on.

The Sabeto mud pools
Twenty minutes inland from Nadi airport the ground runs hot. One pool of warm grey mud, one to rinse in, and a hot spring to finish. It is the cheapest good hour in Fiji and the one thing worth doing on the morning you land.

Snorkelling with reef sharks
Fiji puts you in the water with blacktip and whitetip reef sharks without a dive certificate. The boats run out of Denarau and Pacific Harbour, the briefing is long and specific, and the sharks are wild animals doing what they do whether you are there or not.

Four Fiji days that will not wait for the resort desk.
Most of Fiji can be arranged at the activities counter the night before. These four run on boat seats, on the tide, and on a village that is expecting a certain number of people.
- 01Day Trip to Cloud 9 Floating Platform Including Food and BeveragesOne boat out, one boat back, and the platform sells a set number of seats a day.
- 02Malamala Beach Club – Full DayThe island caps how many people it lets ashore, and the transfer boat is part of the pass.
- 03Jet Boat Safari on the Sigatoka RiverThe river runs on the tide and the village upstream is told how many are coming.
- 04Private Transfer-Nadi International Airport to HotelsLong-haul arrivals land in the small hours, when the taxi rank outside is at its thinnest.

Fiji rain is short, loud and no reason to lose the day.
The wet months, roughly November to April, deliver an hour of hard rain and then blue sky again. The days that ignore the weather are the ones under a roof or already wet: the kava bowl, the market, the temple, the hot spring you were going to sit in anyway.
